The initial licence is perpetual, however to stay in support and thus benefit from version upgrades, it is necessary to pay an annual maintenance fee of 50% of the cost of the perpetual licence. Compared to Cloud, Server requires more time and effort to maintain, but it has a greater choice of Apps (i.e. plugins) and is easier to integrate with other applications.
Data Center is the ideal hosting option for enterprise-level organisations. It uses active-active clustering to achieve high availability and performance at scale. It also has the same wider choice of Apps as Server.
Cloud is the preferred option for teams that want Atlassian to host Jira Software in the Cloud on their behalf, upgrading it automatically as new updates and versions are released. This option enables teams to avoid the complexity of self-hosting and lets them get started quickly and easily.
