Summary
Challenge: Provide recommendations for implementing a project management and assessment management tool, along with establishing a Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Solution: Recommended the use of Jira Core, Asset Management, and Time to SLA. Developed custom Python scripts to import the customer’s existing data from Excel, and conducted extensive testing and user training.
Outcome: Delivered a custom-built Jira instance tailored to the customer’s specific needs, improving monitoring and management capabilities, while ensuring ongoing support.
Challenge
This customer provides secure networking to both commercial and government organisations. It was previously recording and coordinating its workloads and assets using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets across nearly 10 different teams. The customer approached Automation Consultants (AC) for recommendations regarding the implementation of a project management tool to provide greater control of its tasks and processes, an asset management tool to provide greater visibility of available/in-use assets and an Service Level Agreement (SLA) tool to monitor delivery.
Solution
AC suggested the use of Jira Core as a project management tool with Mindville’s Jira app Insight – Asset Management as an asset management tool and Snapbytes’ Jira App Time to SLA to monitor the service delivery. Adaptivist’s ScriptRunner app and Innovalog’s JMWE app were also used to write various scripts and automation rules that allowed linking issues, automatically creating/updating issues and projects as well as automatic updates of the Insight database.
Further solutions included:
- Capturing requirements from different teams to deliver a heavily customised Jira Core instance. This allowed users to monitor progress of all incoming purchases as they moved across different teams, as well as automatically creating/ updating tickets when needed and generating automatic deadlines.
- Writing a custom Python script to import all of the customer’s existing data from Writinga custom Python script to import all of the customer’s existing data from Excel into Insight.
- Subsequent support via extensive user testing of the setup, training for users, and creating detailed documentation of the configuration and set-up.
